California TCAC notice to 4% applicants

The California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC) sent an email to remind 4% non-competitive applicants that those applications no longer require a Local Reviewing Agency (LRA) evaluation. The TCAC application fee is now $1,000. TCAC asks applications to not send TCAC applications to the LRA.

$53 Million Awarded to Help Address Homelessness in California

The California Department of Housing and Community Development announced $53.3 million in awards for the first round of the California Emergency Solutions and Housing Program (CESH). CESH is a state program providing funds for a variety of activities to assist people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

California HCD releases Multifamily Housing Program Draft Guidelines for comment

The California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) released its draft Multifamily Housing Program (MHP) Guidelines. Recent legislation authorized the issuance of $1.5 billion in bonds through the MHP for new construction, rehabilitation and preservation of veterans and affordable housing.

Leadership vacancy at TCAC

Mark Stivers left his post as executive director of the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC) on Sunday, Jan. 6. Stivers was appointed by California State Treasurer John Chiang in 2015. In an email to TCAC stakeholders, Stivers wrote “I intend to remain in public service working on housing issues.”

California Updates List of Jurisdictions Subject to Streamlined Ministerial Approval Process

The California Department of Housing and Community Development released an updated list of California cities and counties subject to streamlined ministerial approval process. Under SB 35, which was signed into law in 2017, cities and counties that are not meeting their housing needs must expedite approvals for certain new housing projects in jurisdictions.
