Legislation Introduced To Extend 1602 Exchange to 4 Percent Tax Credits

Representative Linda Sanchez (D-Calif.) has introduced legislation (HR 4687) to extend the 1602 exchange program to 4 percent credits. Representative Sanchez noted in a floor statement that “I am introducing this bill because our country cannot afford to let this valuable 4 percent tax credit program fall into disuse due to the economy’s downturn at a time when our country is in desperate need of more jobs and more affordable places for low-income families to live.

Senate Majority Leader Pushes Jobs Bill Without Tax Credit Extenders

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has announced that he will push jobs legislation that will not include several tax credit extenders included in a draft bill previously circulated by Senators Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Charles Grassley (R-Neb.), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee have released a draft Jobs Bill.

HUD Solicits Comments on LIHTC Tenant Data Project

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is requesting comments on a proposed information collection project under which state housing credit agencies will gather data and information regarding the race, ethnicity, family composition, age, income, rental assistance, disability status, and monthly rental payments of households living in federal low-income housing tax credit projects.

A recent report from the U.S. Treasury Department shows that nearly 28,000 jobs have been created as a result of the Section 1602 low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) cash grant exchange program, created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

UPDATE: Senate Passes Key Hurdle On Jobs Measure; Indicates Will Address Other Extenders Soon

The United States Senate voted, 70-28, today (Wednesday, 2/24)to pass Senator Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) Jobs Bill. The $85 billion bipartisan jobs proposal was negotiated by the Finance Committee chairman, Max Baucus, D-Mont., and the committee’s top Republican, Charles E. Grassley of Iowa.

New Jersey Releases Proposed 2010 QAP

The New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency has released a draft of its proposed 2010 qualified allocation plan, which establishes selection criteria, application requirements, application fees, program restrictions and standards used for governing the state’s low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) program.
