The Center for Housing Policy recently published a report entitled “The Role of Affordable Housing in Creating Jobs & Stimulating Local Economic Development: A Review of the Literature” that identifies a number of ways in which affordable housing development drives local economic growth and increases revenues for state and local governments. The document references outside literature to support its claims that:

  • Development of affordable housing creates both immediate and long-term employment opportunities;
  • Development of affordable housing attracts new employers and a skilled labor force;
  • Development of affordable housing stimulates spending in the local economy; and
  • Investing in affordable homes increases revenues for states and localities.

The report was completed by the Center for Housing Policy and funded by the MacArthur Foundation.
