Recently, at a State job summit convened in St. Paul, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton announced his intentions to create a state New Markets Tax Credit Program (NMTC). This comes after major budget debates over the summer within the Minnesota Legislature that shutdown the State government for part of the month of July. Dayton’s proposal would create a $50 million Minnesota version of the federal NMTC program but would need the approval of the State Legislature.
