The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency recently released two studies, The Impact of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit in North Carolina and The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit and Neighborhood Property Values in North Carolina. The following is a summary of findings from the studies regarding LIHTC in North Carolina:

  • Every $1 in housing tax credits saves as mush as $3 in taxpayer healthcare dollars
  • The tax credit may be responsible for a savings of anywhere from $3.5 million to $21 million per year in public healthcare dollars
  • LIHTC has generated $923 million in tax revenue over the years
  • The credit has created 137,000 jobs overall
  • NCHFA is unable to find a link between tax credit properties negatively impacting surrounding home values.
