The Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University published its annual America’s Rental Housing report. While rental markets are softening, increasing just 0.4 percent for professionally managed apartment in the third quarter of 2023, unaffordability has hit an all-time high with 22.4 million renter households spending more than 30 percent of their income on housing. The share of cost-burdened renters rose to 50 percent, up 3.2 percentage points from 2019.
