U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan recently announced $1.8 million in Community Development Block Grant funding to Birmingham, Alabama through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This is the first Recovery Act grant made through the CDBG program, intended to create suitable living environments, provide affordable housing and create economic opportunities in communities hit hard by the national economic crisis.
