Two pieces of legislation were passed by Congress last week and sent to President Obama for his signature. Introduced by Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI), S. 118 is designed to streamline the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly program, which funds affordable housing, as well as supportive, community-based services for low-income seniors. The other bill, S. 1481 was introduced by Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and provides people with disabilities the opportunity to live independently within their own communities by creating affordable rental units. Both bills are expected to be signed into law by President Obama.
