On June 12 the Bipartsan Policy Center published a new brief entitled “Housing Assistance is a COVID-19 Response and Racial Justice Priority.”  The brief finds that the public health and economic crisis that COVID-19 triggered has put millions of low-income households at risk of eviction and homelessness and has widened racial disparities in housing and health outcomes.  It recommends four immediate actions be taken to ensure Americans have safe, stable housing and to limit the impacts on low-income families and people of color.  The recommendations include:

  1. Expand emergency rental and other assistance
  2. Strengthen health and housing partnerships to assist vulnerable populations
  3. Quickly allocate already appropriated funding
  4. Augment regulatory flexibilities and waivers
