Affordable Housing in the “Four Corners” Region: Development Opportunities & Allocation Outlook Detailed in New Special Report

Multifamily housing developers, community organizations, investors and lenders interested in affordable housing in the Southwestern United States have a new resource available that provides a comprehensive overview of current opportunities. A special report entitled “Diverse Needs: A Look at Housing Credit Programs in the ‘Four Corners” reviews recent and current tax credit allocation activity, project trends and state priorities in the “Four Corners” states — Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah — and is available, free of charge, from the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association (NH&RA), a Washington, DC-based trade association of affordable housing professionals, and Tax Credit Advisor magazine.

“Developing affordable housing is an information-intensive and relationship-driven enterprise,” explains Peter Bell, NH&RA’s President & CEO. “For over 40 years now, our organization has been bringing together real estate developers, state and local officials, executives from nonprofit community organizations, lenders and investors to explore opportunities, share perspectives on policy matters, discuss the latest financing techniques and figure out how to most effectively build and operate affordable housing.”

This year, NH&RA’s 32nd Annual Summer Institute, will be held at the Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico, July 24-28. A multidisciplinary audience of housing interests will participate in a series of panel discussions, workshops, and networking activities designed to provide updates on state of the art financing, useful programs, green building, affordable housing in rural and resort communities, preserving existing affordable housing, historic rehabilitation, innovative development, negotiating deals, and more. Additional information about the Summer Institute can be found here.

The special report was prepared for NH&RA by the editorial staff of Tax Credit Advisor, a monthly magazine covering the affordable housing industry, to provide an informational backdrop for the discussion that will take place at NH&RA’s 2013 Summer Institute. The report covers recent allocation and development activity, agency priorities, anticipated changes to 2014 state allocation plans for tax credits, and which types of projects are most likely to be successful in obtaining low income housing tax credits.

“Our goal was to provide the developers and professionals interested in the four corners region with analysis and insight that will help them pinpoint the right opportunities to pursue,” notes Thom Amdur, NH&RA’s Executive Director.

Anyone who wishes to obtain a complimentary copy can download the report here.
