Last week, Florida Governor DeSantis signed Senate Bill 102 (Live Local Act) aimed at increasing access to affordable housing across the state and for Floridians to live in communities where they work. The bill will ease restrictions on affordable housing projects and gives tax exemptions to developers and landlords who offer rental units below the market rate. The law will also secure approximately $711 million, which will go towards projects through the Florida Housing Finance Corporation. The bill requires local governments to approve multifamily developments on commercial and mixed-use zoned properties and prohibits local governments from adopting rent control.
